IGN's Eric Goldman was lucky enough to get a chance to interview... well to interview Chance, the character played by Fringe star Mark Valley. Valley has begun the journey of discovery of how it is Chance will think and act. And of course, what we all want to know, is how deeply into the realm of Sci Fi will Fox take the show. Valley hints at it a little with his answer citing "capabilities that we're not really aware of."
IGN TV: In the pilot, Chance accepts a job seemingly based on how fun it sounds. Do you think that's common for him?Mark Valley: Definitely. I think there's an element of risk also. I think he wants to take jobs that seem exciting to him, just to kind of make the job interesting. That's him.
IGN: I assume as an actor it must be fun to play this type of character.Valley: Oh my god, yeah, it's a lot of fun. He is a daredevil. He's going to take chances, there's going to be a lot of action, there's going to be a lot of fighting and martial arts involved as well. For me, it's going to be so much fun.
IGN: There's also certain challenges to playing a character this skilled in so many ways - in the pilot you have to speak fluent Japanese for instance. Is that the type of challenge you're relishing?
Valley: Yeah, it is. I think one of the things that might be interesting is he's going to have capabilities that we're not really aware of, where he's going to be able to imitate others. Although I think the challenge is going to be to play the same character all the way through, you know what I mean? It's one thing to do all these different characters [he plays], but I want to establish pretty solidly who Chance is, and then we'll see what else happens.
IGN: What's his relationship like with Chi and Jackie's characters?Valley: Here's a good metaphor: Somebody said if Chance is like a recovering drug addict, Jackie would have been his drug dealer and Chi is probably his new sponsor.
IGN: Tricia Helfer seems like a nice person to get to protect for your first episode.
Valley: She's so wonderful. She's such a pro and she works really hard. She's fantastically beautiful and it was great to have her.
